The village of Gigintsi is located in the southwestern part of Bulgaria, in Breznishkata hollow. The village is favourably disposed within easy access to the towns of Breznik (18 km), Pernik (26 km) and the Bulgarian capital – Sofia (53 km). the village is near the main road Sofia – Solun /Greece/ - Skopie, 120 km from the Bulgarian – Greece and Bulgarian – Macedonian Check points. The village of Gigintsi belongs to Breznik municipality, Pernik district. The town of Breznik and Pernik district are located in Breznishkata hollow, at 750 m. above the sea level. By the name ‘Piernik’ the settlement is featured in some old maps east of Belogradchik. The settlements included in Breznik municipality are: the town of Breznik and the villages – Arzan, Babitsa, Banishte, Bekunovtsi, Bilintsi, Breznishki izvor, Brusnek, Vidritsa, Gigintsi, Goz, Gorna Sekira… The Pernik region is situated in the South-western part of Bulgaria, 30 km far from Sofia at the main cross-road Sofia-Thessalonoki-Skopje. It occupies an area of 2390.5 sq km, representing 2.1% from the country's territory. It is known from the history that in the past Pernik was a storm-proof fortress, residence of the famous voivode (leader) Krakra, who thousands of year ago, the only one left unconquered by the Byzanyine emperor Vassilius the Second, called latter Bulgarian-killer. He obeyed at last the state of Samuil with unprecedented cruelty.
